Scholarship Description
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, has put in place a strategy which will make accountancy profession more attractive to the brightest youths from any academic discipline by introducing a scholarship scheme.

The ICAN Scholarship Scheme for Graduates And Students is for outstanding students.

Outstanding students of Institutions whose Accounting/Accountancy programmes are accredited by ICAN

Citizens of Nigeria

All ICAN-Accredited Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria

All ICAN-Accredited courses in Accounting / Accountancy

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship shall cover examination fees and provision of study packs and shall subsist as long as the student does not completely fail any level of the examination.

Categories of Scholarship:
1.) Diamond
The Diamond Scholarship is for first class/distinction graduates of ICAN-Accredited Institutions, irrespective of the discipline or course of study to write the Professional Examinations of the Institute.

2.) Gold
The Gold scholarship is for the Best Graduating Student of an ICAN accredited Accounting/Accountancy programme for professional examinational level.

3.) Silver
The Silver Scholarship is for the BEST STUDENT in year one of any ICAN-accredited Accounting/Accountancy programme in tertiary institutions to write the Accounting Technicians Scheme for West Africa (ATSWA) Examination.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) was established by Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1965 to:
  1. determine what standards of knowledge and skill are to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the accountancy profession and to raise those standards from time to time as circumstances may permit;
  2. secure in accordance with the provision of the Act, the establishment and maintenance of the registers of fellows, associates and registered accountants entitled to practise as accountants and auditors and to publish from time to time a list of those persons;
  3. perform, through the Council of the Institute, all other functions conferred on it by the Act.
ICAN is the only accountancy body in Nigeria recognised by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). As the foremost professional accounting body in the West African sub-region, in 1982, ICAN initiated and contributed significantly to the formation of the Association of Accounting Bodies in West Africa (ABWA).

Its mission statement is "To produce world-class Chartered Accountants, regulate and continually
enhance their ethical standards and technical competence in the public interest."
