Trinidad and Tobago Scholarships for Nigerians

Abuja Carnival: Trinidad and Tobago Offers Scholarship to 30 Nigerians

Trinidad and Tobago has announced the award of university scholarships to 30 Nigerian youths to learn the art of management of carnival and costume making for steel band.

The offer was made at the weekend by Trinidad and Tobago's Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism, Dr. Lincoln Douglas, on the opening ceremony of the annual carnival in Abuja.

The beneficiaries, it was learnt, would study for degree in Carnival Art Management of Festival in two institutions, University of Trinidad and Tobago and University West.

The minister said he would arrange with the universities for the admission of the Nigerian students as well as their accommodation and payment of tuition fees.

Trinidad and Tobago is one of the many foreign countries that participated in the street carnival in the nation's capital on Saturday. Douglas, who led a 25-man contingent made up of steel band orchestra to Nigeria for the event, also presented several costumes to the Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke.

He said the Caribbean country offered the sponsorship to Nigeria so as to support the creative energy of Nigerian youths as well help in reducing street crimes.

"This a great opportunity for Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago. We want to share our skills in the area of street carnival and music which we have been doing for 17 years. So, this a platform to bring people together to know each other," he said. Duke described culture as a tool for the promotion of national cohesion and creativity, stressing that Nigeria had the potential to leverage on the plus and possibilities available through tourism and culture.

The second day of Abuja International Culture witnessed the performance of Durbar and traditional food fair and hairdo.

Boren Scholarships are opportunities for undergraduate students with U.S. citizenship to study in regions of the world considered critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad.

The scholarships provide funding resources and encouragement undergraduate students need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of the American nation, in exchange for their commitment to seek work with the U.S. federal government.

The areas and regions include Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Eligibility
Boren Scholarships are for undergraduate students.

You are eligible to apply for the Boren Scholarship if you are:
  • A U.S. citizen at the time of application
  • A high school graduate, or have earned a GED
  • Matriculated in an undergraduate degree program located within the United States accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Boren Scholars must remain matriculated in their undergraduate programs for the duration of the scholarship and may not graduate until the scholarship is complete.
  • Applying to a study abroad program that meets home institution standards in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Boren Scholarships are not for study in the United States.
Program Preferences:
Boren Scholarships are awarded with preference for countries, languages, and fields of study critical to U.S. national security. Preference is also given to students who will study abroad for longer periods of time, and who are highly motivated by the opportunity to work in the federal government.

As NSEP cannot list all countries, languages, and fields that are critical to U.S. national security, we are interested in applications that fall outside the preferences, if the candidate can make a compelling case that such study can contribute significantly to U.S. national security and the goals of the program.

Boren Scholarships promote long term linguistic and cultural immersion, and therefore study abroad proposals for two or more semesters are strongly encouraged. Boren Fellowship awards are made for a minimum of 12 weeks and maximum of 24 months. Overseas programs can be no longer than one year.

Boren Fellowships promote long term linguistic and cultural immersion. Therefore, all overseas study must be a minimum of 12 weeks, and preference will be given to applicants proposing overseas programs of 6 months or longer. However, applicants proposing overseas programs of 3-6 months, especially those in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship benefits
Up to a maximum of $30,000 is provided.

Boren Fellowships provide up to $24,000 for overseas study. In addition, Boren Fellowships can provide limited funding for domestic language study that will supplement the overseas component. The maximum award for a combined overseas and domestic program is $30,000.

Scholarship Description
The Embassy of Mexico announced the opening of the call for the 2015 Mexican Government Excellence Scholarship Program for Foreign Students as from May 9th 2014. This call is still open (as at 16th July 2014).

The scholarships of the Mexican Government present two programs: the scholarship for academic studies and the scholarship for special programs.

The scholarships for academic studies are offered to complete a specialty, master’s, doctorate and conduct research at the graduate level programs. The offer also includes academic mobility in the undergraduate and graduate levels. Meanwhile, grants for special programs are offered for short-stay visitors aimed at teachers, researchers on issues of Mexico, media partners and stays artistic creation, among others.

Eligibility
General Terms and Conditions:
  • The scholarships for academic studies are offered to take complete programs for Specialization, Master’s or PhD Degrees, and Postgraduate Researches. Likewise, the offer includes academic mobility for Bachelor’s and Postgraduate Degree.
    On the other hand, the scholarships for special programs are offered Preferred to take short-term fellowships addressed to Visiting Professors, Researchers in Mexico’s issues, Media Contributors, Art Production Fellowships, etc.
  • Candidates cannot be living in Mexico at the time of application.
  • Except in special cases, scholarships cannot begin in November or December.
  • Requests for information and all scholarship applications must be submitted to the Mexican embassy or concurrent embassy of the applicant’s country or to the designated Mexican institution. Only applications that fulfill all of the requirements will be considered.
  • All documents and forms must be in Spanish or submitted with translations into Spanish.
  • Candidates will be informed of the results by the corresponding Mexican embassy or designated Mexican institution.
  • The scholarships are not transferable and cannot be deferred to future years.

Scholarship Description
Every year, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL), in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) offers the NNPC/ESSO International Postgraduate Scholarships to qualified Nigerian students.

ESSO offers these International Scholarships, in continuation of its efforts to provide opportunities for developing careers in the petroleum industry, to outstanding Nigerian graduates who wish to pursue their dream of postgraduate masters studies abroad in the disciplines listed below.

Eligibility
Essential requirements include:
  1. Must be a graduate from a Nigerian University
  2. Must possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of second class upper division in any of the Engineering and Geosciences disciplines listed below.
  3. Must have provisional admission to undertake full-time postgraduate study at a reputable foreign University (MSc or MEng) in the 2014/2015 academic session.
Ineligibility:
Employees of ExxonMobil subsidiary companies in Nigeria and their dependents are NOT eligible for this scholarship.

Scholarship Description
The Wells Mountain Foundation (WMF), a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont, USA, funds the Empowerment Through Education Scholarship Program for individuals in developing nations or other situations of extreme poverty.

WMF hopes that by providing the opportunity to further one’s education, the scholarship participants will not only be able to improve their own future, but also that of their own communities.

The foundation believes in the power and importance of community service and, as a result, all scholarship participants are required to volunteer for a minimum of one month a year.

ATTENTION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS!
It has come to the attention of WMF that someone is trying to defraud those who apply for the WMF scholarships. No matter what you may be told there are NO FEES required to submit a scholarship application to the Wells Mountain Foundation! You only need to submit a complete application through the official website (link to it is below), by the annual deadline each year of April 1. If someone contacts you saying a fee is required, please forward that email to info@wellsmountainfoundation.org. WMF would very much like to prosecute this fraud.


Wells Mountain Foundation (WMF) Scholarships

Eligibility
The ideal candidate is any student, male or female, from a country in the developing world, who:
  • successfully completed a secondary education, with good to excellent grades
  • will be studying in their country or another country in the developing world
  • plans to live and work in their own country after they graduate
  • has volunteered prior to applying for this scholarship and/or is willing to volunteer while receiving the WMF scholarship
  • may have some other funds available for their education, but will not be able to go to school without a scholarship

Your choice of ANY institution in your home country or in ANY other developing country

Fields of study
All fields of study are eligible; although WMF tends to favor professions such as health care, social work, education, social justice, as well as, professions that help the economy and progress of the country such as computers, engineering, agriculture and business.

Each year WMF receives a much greater number than the year before, but their scholarship funds are not growing at the same rate. The competition is keen, so be sure your application is complete and received before the deadline.

Sponsorship duration
Scholarships are generally granted for the full period of study, however, recipients must maintain good grades and provide copies of all semester reports and grades as they are received.

The scholarship can be discontinued at any time in the event of unsatisfactory performance.

Scholarship benefits
Scholarships range from $300 USD to $3000 USD. While the maximum scholarship is $3000 USD, WMF rarely award this amount. The average scholarship amount is $1400. Award covers:
  • Tuition and fees
  • Books and materials
  • Room rent and meal
WMF does not fund the following:
  • Education at a college, polytechnic or university in the United States, UK, Australia, or Europe (except Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ, USA - see FAQ question #8 on official website for reasons and explanations). Education in these countries, while excellent, is too expensive for our scholarship amounts to be effective.
  • Masters or Doctorate degrees – we prefer to use our limited resources to assist young people in getting their initial tertiary degree. A medical degree, however, is acceptable.
  • Laptop computers, conferences or trips
  • Debts or past due tuition bills
Method of Application
Beginning in December 2013, the Empowerment Through Education Scholarship Program transitioned to accepting applications on the official WMF website (not via email). All applications MUST now be made online via the official website (link to it is below).

Students can now prepare their application over a four month period (from December-April). This time frame will allow students to prepare complete applications and submit all of their necessary documents. Applicants can rest assured that once their application is complete and submitted, all documents will be reviewed.

DEADLINES:
The online application enables students to prepare their application over a four month period if desired (from December 2015-April 1, 2014). Applicants are able to complete their online application at any time before April 1, 2014 at 11:59pm EST.

The scholarship awards are determined by the Board of Directors of the Wells Mountain Foundation and awarded once a year. Only the selected WMF Scholarship recipients will be emailed on August 1, 2014. Their names will also be published on the WMF homepage and Facebook Page.

The 2014 WMF Scholars will be announced on August 1, 2014. Applicants who do not receive the scholarship will not be notified individually of this result. WMF will not respond to emails asking questions about who was or was not awarded the scholarships, since the results will be posted on the official website.

The BEA Awards are scholarship awards made to eligible Nigerian youths after due process by development partners who have entered into Bilateral Educational agreement with Nigeria. Nigeria equally offers reciprocal awards to citizens of the following Bilateral Education Agreement countries: China, Romania, and Cuba.

Federal Ministry of Education Overseas Scholarships for Undergraduate, Masters and PhD Nigerian Students

Eligibility
(A). Undergraduate Scholarship
  • All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of Five (5) Distinctions (As & Bs) in the Senior Secondary School Certificate, WAEC or NECO (May/June) only in the subjects relevant to their field of study including English language and Mathematics.
  • Certificates should not be more than Two (2) years old (2012 or 2013)
  • Age limit is 22 years.
(B). Postgraduate Scholarship
  • All applicants must hold a First Degree with at least 2nd Class Upper Division.
  • The applicants who are previous recipients of Foreign Awards must have completed at least Two (2) years post qualification or employment practice in Nigeria.
  • A knowledge of the Foreign language of the donor country is desired particularly for those applying for Russian Award.
  • All applicants must have completed NYSCE.
  • Age limit is 35 years for Masters and 40 years for Ph.D.
Note: (For all Applicants): Knowledge of the language of the country of choice is an added advantage.

  1. Undergraduate level: Medicine, Paramedical, Engineering, Geology, Agriculture, Sciences, Mathematics, Languages, Environmental Sciences, Sports, Law, Social Sciences, etc

Note:
Awardees study the language of the country in their first Year and this constitutes the language of instruction throughout their study.

It is pertinent to state that performance in the language course determines the continuation of the course of study for which the award has been made.

The duration of the scholarship offer ranges from 4 - 9 years depending on the level of study and the country.

Scholarship benefits
The participating countries (see above) are responsible for the tuition and accommodation, while Nigeria government takes care of the following;
  • $500 monthly for supplementation
  • $250 yearly for warm clothing
  • $200 yearly for Health Insurance
  • $500 yearly for medical scholars only
  • $1000 for PG research grant yearly were applicable
  • N100,000 – Take off for PG scholars were applicable
  • N60,000 – Take off for UG scholars were applicable

All eligible applicants are to report for interview at the venues nearest to them as scheduled for their respective states of origin. Two sets of completed application forms should be submitted at the various interview centres with the following attachments:
  1. Two authenticated photocopies of Educational Certificates and Testimonial
  2. Only one Certificate will be accepted ie WAEC or NECO
  3. Statement of results must be confirmed by WAEC or NECO and forwarded to the Director/ Secretary, Federal Scholarship Board, Abuja.
  4. Two copies of Birth Certificate.
  5. State of Origin Certificate duly signed, stamped and dated.
  6. Eight (8) passport sized colour photographs on white background
  7. Data page of current International Passport, and
  8. Academic transcripts and NYSC certificate will be required from applicants for postgraduate studies.

The WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarships (PBS) are awarded to individuals from East and South who wish to pursue formal studies or professional training in the field of conservation.

Under the patronage of the late HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands and to pay a lasting tribute to the Founder President of WWF and The 1001: A Nature Trust, the WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarship Fund for Nature Conservation was created in 1991 to help build conservation expertise and leadership in developing countries and emerging economies.

With the generous support of The 1001: A Nature Trust, the aim of the WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarships is to provide financial support to individuals who wish to pursue short-term professional training or formal studies that will help them contribute more effectively to conservation efforts in their country.

Each scholarship empowers a dedicated conservationist to build his or her capacity. In turn, these people are in a position to share the benefits of their knowledge and skills with others and so spread the benefits.

The 2014 application process is now open.

The WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarships (PBS) are awarded to individuals from East and South who wish to pursue formal studies or professional training in the field of conservation. Each scholarship empowers a dedicated conservationist to build his or her capacity. In turn, these people are in a position to share the benefits of their knowledge and skills with others and so spread the benefits.

Eligibility
As a priority, the PBS support mid-career training (up to a maximum of one year) for individuals working in the field of conservation or associated disciplines directly relevant to the delivery and promotion of conservation. Applications from candidates doing multiple-year studies will only be considered if the applicant is applying for support for the last year of studies.

Applications are encouraged from people seeking to build skills in specific subjects that will enhance their contribution to nature conservation. In particular, women and people working for non-governmental or community-based organizations are encouraged to apply.

Only nationals from Africa, Asia/Pacific, Latin America & Carribean, Eastern Europe & Middle East will be considered, including WWF staff or candidates working as partners with WWF. Preference is given to those who seek support for studies in their country or region and provide proof that they are also seeking funding from other sources. Applicants must provide written proof of acceptance on a course.

Each WWF Office or Associate carries out an initial screening of the applications they receive and make their recommendations to the PBS Selection Committee, which meets in April each year. Only those applications accompanied by a completed recommendation by a WWF Office or Associate will be considered.
