Scholarship Description
This is a call for applications from foreigners for Hungarian state scholarships.

The Hungarian Government through the Hungarian Scholarship Board (HSB) offers the Hungarian Government Scholarships for Foreign Students. The scholarships are to conduct studies or research in Hungarian higher education institutions and research institutes in the academic year 2014/2015 and for summer university courses in the summer of 2014.

Hungary through the Balassi Institute - the Hungarian Scholarship Board Office - offers scholarships for foreign students and lecturers in higher education institutions as well as research fellows who intend to gain further professional experience in Hungarian higher education institutions or research institutes.

Scholarships can be applied for in two different ways: (a). Work plans and bilateral agreements; AND (b). Scholarship Pool.

Hungary, Hungarian Government Scholarship

Eligibility
This scholarship is for all foreigners to the Hungarian state. The following will apply:

Cases of Non-Eligibility:
  • Foreign citizens with a residence permit or in the course of applying for a residence permit in Hungary cannot apply.
  • Foreign citizens with permanent residence in Hungary.
  • Foreign citizens employed on a permanent basis as defined by the Hungarian Labour Law
  • Students in employment applying for part-time or correspondence study programmes.
  • Students applying for programmes not financed by the Hungarian state.
  • Students admitted to higher education host institutions where tuition fee is required.
Age Limit for Applicants
  • Applicants for semester/partial studies (type A) must be under 30;
  • Applicants for postgraduate studies (type B) must be under 40;
  • Applicants for PhD scholarships (types C1 and C2) must be under 35;
  • Applicants for postdoctoral scholarships (type D) must be under 45.
There is no age limit for the following types of scholarships:
  • research stay (type E);
  • summer university course (type F).
Eligible groups
a). For the Work plans and bilateral agreements:
Citizens of countries (and territories) that have a valid/effective educational work plan with Hungary, or a bilateral agreement signed by the Hungarian Ministry of Human Resources and the relevant ministry of the given country (or territory).

b). For the Scholarship Pool:
Citizens of the following countries/territories: Albania, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korean Republic, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Republic of the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America.

NOTE: Citizens of the following countries may only apply through their national scholarship offices, on the basis of bilateral agreements: China, Columbia, Yemen, Mongolia, Palestine and Vietnam.

Fields of study
Undergraduate and graduate level study or research in any field of arts and sciences during the granted period at an accredited Hungarian higher education or research institution to be determined in advance

Sponsorship duration / Scholarship benefits
The following scholarships are available in the academic year 2014/2015:
  1. Semester/partial studies (3-10 months)
    Available for: undergraduate (BA/BSc) and graduate (MA/MSc) students.

    HUF 40,460 stipend per month, paid by the host institution; student hostel accommodation in a university residence hall paid by the scholarship-holder.

  2. Postgraduate studies, research (3-21 days or 1-10 months)
    Available for: applicants holding a Master’s degree or an equivalent university degree, including PhD students who intend to do research for their dissertation.

    HUF 79,200 stipend per month and HUF 70,000 accommodation allowance per month. For scholarships lasting 21 days or less: accommodation allowance and a stipend of HUF 3,000/day. These amounts are paid by the Balassi Institute HSB Office.

  3. (C/1) - full PhD programme (36 months)
    HUF 100,000 stipend per month paid by the host institution; student hostel accommodation in a university residence hall paid by the scholarship-holder.

    (C/2) - partial PhD studies (10 months)
    HUF 100,000 stipend per month paid by the host institution; student hostel accommodation in a university residence hall paid by the scholarship-holder.

  4. Postdoctoral studies, research (1-10 months)
    HUF 118,800 stipend and HUF 80,000 accommodation allowance per month, paid by the Balassi Institute HSB Office.

  5. Research stay (3-21 days or 1-10 months)
    Available for associate professors or high-ranking academics.

    HUF 118,800 stipend and HUF 80,000 accommodation allowance per month. For scholarships lasting 21 days or less an accommodation allowance and a stipend of HUF 3000/day will be granted. These amounts are paid by the Balassi Institute HSB Office.

  6. Summer courses in the summer of 2014 (2-4 weeks)
    Tuition-free course, free accommodation and meals.
Method of Application
Applications must be submitted in two ways: ONLINE through the HSB website, AND in printed version sent by post.

Please note that applications must be submitted in both ways. The HSB office will only accept applications sent by post as well as through the online system by the given deadline below.

DEADLINE:
Deadline of the online application is 7th April 2014 (Monday CEST midnight). Deadline of the posted application is Monday, 7th April 2014 (as per postmark).

For those applying under the system of bilateral agreements the application deadline might be earlier, as determined by the national scholarship office of the given country.

PLEASE NOTE:
HSB suggests that applicants keep a copy of the application documents.

Incomplete applications or those submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Scholarship Description
The Hungarian Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), on behalf of the Government of Hungary, has established a Fellowships programme for Master of Science (MSc) degrees.

The Programme target students originating from and residing in the selected eligible countries listed below. And it will cover tuition, books, and subsistence costs for the entire duration of the course.

Eligibility
Candidates will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:
  • Citizenship and residency of one of the eligible countries
  • Excellent school achievements
  • Good health
  • Motivation
  • English language proficiency (for courses taught in English)
  • Age (candidates under 30 are preferred)
Eligible groups
Residents (who must be nationals) of the following countries are eligible to apply to the Scholarship Programme:
Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Chad, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macedonia, Mali, Myanmar, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nigeria, North-Korea, the Philippines, Serbia, Somalia, South-Sudan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.

Participating Institutions
All accredited institutions of higher learning in Hungary

Fields of study
For the 2015-15 academic year, the following courses will be offered in English language:
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Horticulture
  • Rural development and agribusiness
Courses will be offered provided the minimum number of students is reached.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship will cover:
  • application and tuition fees throughout the study period;
  • basic books and notes;
  • dormitory accommodation
  • subsistence costs
Scholarship students are entitled to the same health care coverage offered to Hungarian students during the course of the scholarship. The awarded students however will be responsible for financing their travel to and from Hungary.

The scholarship covers student costs only; relatives of the candidate are not supported within the frame of this programme.
