Scholarship Description
Following the success of the 2013 OERL Study in India Scholarship, Oredian Education Resources Limited (OERL) hereby announces the registration of students for the 2014 OERL Study in India Scholarship.

This registration, announced by OERL, is for 2014/2015 academic year beginning in June 2014 and in collaboration with Indian Partner Institutions.

For the 2014 academic session, there are two types of scholarships thus: Academic Based Scholarship (ABS) AND Sport Based Scholarship(SBS).

Academic Based Scholarship (ABS): The scholarship will be awarded to students based on their respective performances in the OERL study in India scholarship examination.

Sport Based Scholarship (SBS): The prospective applicants must be academically qualified for any of the available courses before applying for scholarship under SBS.

The OERL Study in India Scholarship is fully approved by the authority of the participating Indian Institutions.

Eligibility
A). ELIGIBILITY FOR ACADEMIC BASED SCHOLARSHIP (ABS)
To qualify for the ABS test, applicant must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:
  1. Applicant must have 5 credits in relevant subjects in WAEC, NECO OR NABTEB
  2. Must be within 17-25 years of age.
  3. Must be ready to undertake any of the below eligible course fields in sponsoring Institutions.
  4. Should be ready to represent Nigeria in India being a good student.
  5. Since the scholarship covers only tuition fee only prospective students must be financially ready to bear other cost in India.
B). SELECTION METHOD AND PROCEDURE
The scholarship exam will be conducted by National Business and Examinations Board (NABTEB). The subjects are classified into three categories as follows:

1). Science Subjects (For Engineering, Natural/ Applied Sciences)
  1. Mathematics
  2. Physics
  3. Chemistry
  4. Biology
  5. Use of English & Current Affairs
  6. 10 questions relating to India.
2) Art Subjects (For Arts & Humanities Courses)
  1. Government
  2. Economics
  3. Literature in English
  4. CRK/IRS
  5. Use of English & Current Affairs
  6. 10 questions relating to India.
3) Social Sciences (For Business Management and Accounts)
  1. Mathematics
  2. Commerce/Government
  3. Economics
  4. Accounts
  5. Use of English and Current Affairs
  6. 10 questions relating to India
C). ADMISSION PROCESSING
Upon the award of provisional scholarship, students will be required to commence admission processing with the sponsoring Institutions as award of provisional scholarship does not represent automatic admission and visa requirements.

D). SPORT BASED SCHOLARSHIP (SBS)
Full scholarship has been approved by two sponsors Institutions - Saint Francis De-Sales College and Loyola Academy for 30 students in the under listed Sport & Games:

  5. Field events
The prospective applicants must be academically qualified for any of the available courses before applying for scholarship under SBS.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship, which is worth $150,000 for tuition fee only, will be available and is distributed to beneficiaries in various courses as provided by the approving Institutions. Scholarship to be awarded covers tuition fee only while students are to take care of other expenses.

For the two types of scholarships in the 2014/2015 academic session:
1). Academic Based Scholarship (ABS): ABS are of three categories as follows:
  • Full Scholarship: This scholarship covers the fee of 3 years or 4 years degree programme. Students are expected to score a minimum of 80% and above aggregate in the scholarship exam.
  • Two years scholarship: This covers the tuition fee for two years of any 3 years degree course of study. Prospective winners in this category are expected to at least score 50% in the scholarship exam.
  • One year scholarship: This covers only one year tuition fee of a three years academic programme. Students are expected to score at least 40% in the scholarship exam.
2). Sport Based Scholarship (SBS)
Full scholarship has been approved by two sponsor Institutions- Saint Francis De-Sales College and Loyola Academy for 30 students in the above listed Sport & Games (see 'D' under 'Eligibility' above).

Method of Application
APPLICATION FEES
To apply for this scholarship, interested candidates are required to follow these simple steps:
Interested Nigerian students who wish to benefit from this opportunity are to pay examination fee (which cover scholarship application, examination materials, centre, study in India Orientation Seminar) of N5, 775 (Five Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy-Five Naira only).

SBS APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Interested applicant must not be more than 25 years old and must indicate course of interest. Also while all applicants will be made to demonstrate ability and fitness, they will equally be examined by competent professional in their chosen sport.

The SBS full scholarship covers only tuition fee for the duration of the programme.
Applicants for SBS will not write the OERL Scholarship exams but bears all related costs of fitness determinations.

Candidates who successfully apply for 2014 scholarship will be provided with free 2012 and 2013 past scholarship question papers and answers to prepare for the exam.

Scholarship Description
The Wellcome Trust/ DBT India Alliance, an independent charity registered in India, offers to all nationalities the Senior Fellowships for Researchers in India.

This scheme supports outstanding researchers of any nationality, either medically qualified or science graduates, who wish to pursue a research career in an academic institution in India.

Applicants must have demonstrated their ability to lead an independent research project and group.

Eligibility
You should normally have between seven to fifteen years of post-PhD or equivalent clinical research experience. It is not essential for medical or veterinary degree holders to have a PhD. Due allowance will be given to an applicant whose career has been affected for personal reasons.

Applicants for the Senior Fellowship typically have a substantial record of publications and would have made significant intellectual contributions in their chosen area of research. Supervision of students and extra mural funding are also positively considered.

Candidates need not be Indian nationals or of India origin but must already be pursuing or intending to pursue an academic research career in India.

Dual Fellowship Policy:
You may apply even if you already hold another Fellowship.

Sponsorship:
You must have an eligible sponsoring host institution in India that will administer the Fellowship for the full duration of the award.

Resubmission Policy:
Regardless of your previous applications to the India Alliance, all applicants have to make a preliminary application to every competition.

The fellowship provides:
  • Personal Support for the fellow.
  • Essential costs of the research programme, including consumables, equipment, collaborative travel, research assistance and technical support if appropriate
  • Overheads, a flexible funding allowance and support to attend scientific meetings, in addition to requested essential costs.
The total award for a Senior Fellowship typically amounts to INR 4.5 Crores. This includes the costs requested by the applicant as well as the set contributions by the India Alliance. Costs requested by the applicant must commensurate with their research proposal and should be fully justified in the full application. Inadequate justifications may result in costs being revised.

The application process starts as follows:
  • Complete and submit a preliminary application through IASys (India Alliance Online Application System) by the published deadline.
  • If your preliminary application is viewed positively, you will be invited to submit a full application. Candidates will be notified in writing.
  • Resubmission following consideration of full application is not permitted.
  • Your application will be reviewed by the appropriate advisory committee and, if successful, you will be short-listed for interview.

Scholarship Description
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, India, and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Italy have instituted a postgraduate fellowship programme for foreign scholars from developing countries.

The TWAS Fellowship Programmes is for those who wish to pursue research towards a PhD in Biotechnology, tenable at key biotechnology research institutions in India for a period of up to five years.

Each year, the TWAS Fellowship Programmes offer a number of fellowships to young scientists from developing countries to carry out postgraduate research in developing countries other than their own.

This is achieved through the pursuit of postdoctoral research in biotechnology at key biotechnology research institutions in India through the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, India.

The programme operates under agreements with governments and national organizations in developing countries. And the language of instruction is English.

Eligibility
Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a maximum age of 35 years on 31 December of the application year.
  • Be nationals of a developing country (other than India).
  • Must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in India or any developed country.
  • Hold a Master's or equivalent degree in science or engineering.
  • Be regularly employed in a developing country and hold a research assignment there.
  • For SANDWICH Fellowships: Be registered PhD students in their home country and provide the "Registration and No Objection Certificate" from the HOME university (sample is included in the application form).
  • For FULL-TIME Fellowships: Be willing to register at a university in India.
  • Be accepted at a biotechnology institution in India (see sample Acceptance Letter included in the application form).

Scholarship benefits
DBT will provide a monthly stipend to cover for living costs, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.

Submitting your application:
For SANDWICH Fellowships (only if already registered for a PhD in the HOME country) applicants should ensure that the Vice-Chancellor or Registrar of the university sends a signed copy of the "Registration and No Objection Certificate" on institutional headed paper to TWAS (see sample included in the application form).

Applicants should submit the Acceptance Letter from an Indian biotechnology institution to TWAS when applying or by the deadline at the latest. Applicants will have until the deadline to submit the Acceptance Letter to TWAS. Without preliminary acceptance, the application will not be considered for selection.

Reference letter: Referees must send signed letters as attachments via e-mail directly to TWAS. The subject line must contain: DBT/PG/candidate's surname. Alternatively, letters should be sent by post in sealed envelopes.

Applications for the TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowship Programme should be sent to TWAS and CICS (by post, fax or email).

DEADLINES:
The deadline for receipt of applications is 31 August of each year.

PLEASE NOTE:

This fellowship programme is jointly instituted by the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) Bangalore and the Centre for International Co-operation in Science(CICS), Chennai to encourage mobility of scientists from developing countries.

The Fellowship covers short-term research, training or participatory research work in physical, chemical or biological sciences in reputed scientific institutions in India including JNCASR.

The programme has attracted young scientists from developing countries all over the world to visit Indian centres of excellence for research training and collaborations.

Eligibility
Applicant must be a scientist, teacher or a research scholar affiliated to a scientific or academic institution in a developing country in Asia (other than India), Africa, Latin America and Arab region. Applicants below 45 years of age are eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria:
All conditions being satisfied, applicants meeting the following criteria will be given preference over others.
  • Applicants who have proven academic excellence
  • Innovation and novelty in the proposed research work
  • Relevance of training to the parent institution and the home country as endorsed by the recommending authority

  • international return air fare by the shortest route by economy class from the place of work of the candidate at his/her country to the host institution in India, 
  • boarding, lodging (for the individual only) at the affiliated institution and other subsistence expenses in the form of an adequate allowance in Indian currency.

The O. P. Jindal Global University (JGU), Delhi NCR, India, is happy to announce the Jindal-Africa Scholarship Programme as part of its commitment towards fostering global cooperation and development, with a special focus on Africa.

50 scholarships will be set aside for Africans to study at its campus from August. According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. C. Raaj Kumar:
“This scholarship programme is intended to build human capital of fellow developing countries through higher education.
It aims to build capacities of young Africans by bringing them to the JGU campus in India and training them in key issue areas relevant to the national priorities of their respective countries. The ultimate goal of this programme is to strengthen people-to-people linkages between India and Africa.”
