Scholarship Description
The Japan Foundation for United Nations University (JFUNU) Scholarship is available for outstanding applicants from developing countries. Only those who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance will be considered for the award of the scholarship.

The programme addresses pressing global issues of sustainability, climate change, development, peace-building, and human rights through an innovative interdisciplinary approach that integrates the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

The programme is intended for recent graduates, professionals, and practitioners, offering the unique opportunity to study at a global university within the framework of the United Nations. It provides students with the knowledge and skills to make important contributions towards solving global issues, whether through employment by UN agencies, other international organizations, governments, civil society, or the private sector.

Eligibility
Applicants for the Master of Science in Sustainability are required to have met the following requirements by the application deadline in order to be considered:
  • A strong interest in sustainability studies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to study and understand global issues.
  • A completed bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognized university or institution of higher education in a field related to sustainability. Those who expect to graduate and have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent conferred before September 2015 may also apply.
  • A GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale on the bachelor’s degree earned.
  • English language proficiency: The minimum score requirements for English language qualifications required by UNU-ISP are:
    • 600 in TOEFL – Paper-Based Testing (PBT)
    • 100 in TOEFL – Internet-Based Testing (iBT)
    • 7.0 in IELTS – Academic format
  • Applicants, except for the cases below, must submit original TOEFL or IELTS score reports (from a test taken within the last two years) to Admissions Office at the time of application:
    • Applicants whose first language is English.
    • Applicants who graduated from a university or a postgraduate school located in an English speaking country.(IBT)
    • Applicants who completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme where the language of instruction and examination was English. In this case, an official statement from the academic institution will be required, confirming the use of English as the language of instruction and examination.
Selection Criteria:
The JFUNU Scholarship is available for outstanding applicants from developing countries who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance, and they will be considered as candidates for the award of the scholarship.

Scholarship benefits
The JFUNU scholarship covers the full tuition fees, and provides a monthly allowance of 150,000 JPY* for living expenses for a maximum of 24 months. Travel costs to and from Japan, visa handling fees, and health/accident insurance costs must be covered by the student.

*150,000 JPY is the average monthly living cost for an international student without dependents in Tokyo, although this amount may vary depending on the lifestyle of the student.

You will need to create a user account to submit your applications. The online form can be saved and returned to at any time before submitting.

DEADLINES:
Application for the 2015 academic session opened on 1st December 2014. The application deadlines for FIRST SELECTION deadline is 27 February, and for FINAL SELECTION deadline is 30 April.

The deadline to apply for September 2015 entry is 27th February 2015 (Tokyo time).

PLEASE NOTE:
After the application deadline, the process of reviewing applications and making admission decisions will take approximately 6-8 weeks. Who is eligible to apply for Undergraduate Program as International Students?
International candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
  1. He or she has graduated or will graduate from his or her secondary education by August 31, 2015.
  2. He or she is not a citizen of Korea.

Note: International applicant whose parents were born in Korea MUST read the instructions below.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, the following must apply:
  1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.

  2. Educational background and age limit:
    • Applicants for undergraduate studies in Beijing must have completed senior high school with good grades and be under the age of 30. Applicants for Masters degree studies in Beijing must have Bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35. Applicants for Doctoral degree studies in Beijing must have Master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

  3. 20,000 RMB/year/ for a Bachelor degree

All international students applying for the Beijing Government Scholarships shall normally submit relevant materials to the universities in Beijing that he/she hopes to apply to by the end of February every year.

For specific application means, you can consult the government departments and relevant institutions responsible for dispatching students abroad in your country, Chinese embassies or consulates; you can also visit the Web of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education (http://www.bjedu.gov.cn) for inquiry; or directly apply to the universities qualified to issue such scholarship in Beijing.

Therefore, applicants may submit documents to the Chinese government office in charge of sending international students to China, relevant offices in the applicants’ home country, or the Chinese diplomatic missions or embassies in the applicants’ home country;

PLEASE NOTE:

VISA APPLICATION:
Students under the Beijing Government Scholarship Program should apply for a visa to study in China at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General with the original documents and one set of photocopies of the Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study in China and Physical Examination Form for Foreigners, and a valid ordinary passport.

Scholarship students who are going to stay in China for more than 6 months will need to apply for an "X" visa, while those who will stay less than 6 months will need to apply for an "F" visa. The scholarship students must enter China with the original copies of the above documents.

A person coming to China with other types of passports, visas or without the original documents will not be able to register with the institution.

Following the success of the 2013 OERL Study in India Scholarship, Oredian Education Resources Limited (OERL) hereby announces the registration of students for the 2014 OERL Study in India Scholarship.

This registration, announced by OERL, is for 2014/2015 academic year beginning in June 2014 and in collaboration with Indian Partner Institutions.

For the 2014 academic session, there are two types of scholarships thus: Academic Based Scholarship (ABS) AND Sport Based Scholarship(SBS).

Academic Based Scholarship (ABS): The scholarship will be awarded to students based on their respective performances in the OERL study in India scholarship examination.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship, which is worth $150,000 for tuition fee only, will be available and is distributed to beneficiaries in various courses as provided by the approving Institutions. Scholarship to be awarded covers tuition fee only while students are to take care of other expenses.

For the two types of scholarships in the 2014/2015 academic session:
1). Academic Based Scholarship (ABS): ABS are of three categories as follows:
  • Full Scholarship: This scholarship covers the fee of 3 years or 4 years degree programme. Students are expected to score a minimum of 80% and above aggregate in the scholarship exam.
  • Two years scholarship: This covers the tuition fee for two years of any 3 years degree course of study. Prospective winners in this category are expected to at least score 50% in the scholarship exam.
  • One year scholarship: This covers only one year tuition fee of a three years academic programme. Students are expected to score at least 40% in the scholarship exam.
2). Sport Based Scholarship (SBS)
Full scholarship has been approved by two sponsor Institutions- Saint Francis De-Sales College and Loyola Academy for 30 students in the above listed Sport & Games (see 'D' under 'Eligibility' above).

Method of Application
APPLICATION FEES
To apply for this scholarship, interested candidates are required to follow these simple steps:
Interested Nigerian students who wish to benefit from this opportunity are to pay examination fee (which cover scholarship application, examination materials, centre, study in India Orientation Seminar) of N5, 775 (Five Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy-Five Naira only).

SBS APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Interested applicant must not be more than 25 years old and must indicate course of interest. Also while all applicants will be made to demonstrate ability and fitness, they will equally be examined by competent professional in their chosen sport.

The SBS full scholarship covers only tuition fee for the duration of the programme.
Applicants for SBS will not write the OERL Scholarship exams but bears all related costs of fitness determinations.

The PRESSID Scholarship scheme: 449 Candidates Qualify for 2013/2014 Screening Test

(14/8/2012) -- The National Universities Commission (NUC) on Monday said that 449 candidates met the criteria for selection for the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for innovation and development.

The Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, made the statement in Abuja when he visited Chams centre where the candidates wrote the Presidential Special Scholarship Aptitude Test. “Of the 449 candidates who are writing the test this year, we are only going to take 100 students from the best of the best,’’ he said.

According to Okojie, the scheme was part of efforts to achieve the goals of Vision 20:2020 and the Transformation Agenda “Federal Government has plans to develop a critical mass of professionals, who will serve as catalysts of change and agents of scientific and technological advancement.

Okojie noted that the selection was based on graduates who had obtained First Class degrees from recognised and approved universities. He said that this would be in the areas of Sciences, Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Engineering, Economics, Special aspects of Biology, Nuclear Physics, Quantitative Genetics, Medical Biochemistry, Aeronautical engineering, among others.

According to him, the test would be held annually with 100 students qualifying for the scheme for innovation and development. He said once these students finished their courses, they were expected to come back with entrepreneurial skills to work.

“They will work for the system as the next generation of academics for five years after which the Federal Government would allow them to be on their own,” Okojie said. He added that opportunity, by way of allotment of 2 per cent of the scholarship seats, would be given to people with disability who hold First Class degrees.

Okojie, however, debunked the claims that the criteria used for selection was a deliberate policy to marginalise some candidates from some parts of the country. He said that the scholarship was for only students who applied and were qualified to be shortlisted for the test and stressed that the scholarship was not only for a group of people from particular states.

“That is why the membership of the committee of the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme comprises professors who made First Class from the six geopolitical zones so that there is nothing like marginalisation,” he said.

Eligibility
The following eligibility guidelines apply:
  • Entrants must be citizens of a Commonwealth country. The Commonwealth Foundation will request verification of citizenship before winners are selected. Writers from non-Commonwealth countries (including the Republic of Ireland and Zimbabwe) are not eligible.
  • For regional purposes, entries will be judged by country of citizenship. Where the writer has dual citizenship, the entry will be judged in the region where the writer is permanently resident.
  • Entrants must be aged 18 years or over.
  • There is no requirement for the writer to have current residence in a Commonwealth country, providing she/he is a citizen of a Commonwealth country.
  • All entries will be accepted at the discretion of the Commonwealth Foundation which will exercise its judgement, in consultation with the prize chair as necessary, in ruling on questions of eligibility. The ruling of the chair on questions of eligibility is final, and no further correspondence will be entered into.
Selection Criteria:
The final selection will be judged by an international judging panel; experienced readers will assist the named judges in selecting the long lists.

If the winning short story is a translation into English, the translator will receive additional prize money: £2,000 for the overall winning story and £1,000 for a regional winning story.

Worldwide copyright of each story remains with the writer. The Commonwealth Foundation will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning stories (the overall winning story and the four regional winning stories) in an anthology and for promotional purposes.

The overall and regional winners will be expected to take part in publicity activities including social media where possible. The overall and regional winners will be expected to undertake a mutually acceptable programme of regional outreach activities to develop and promote Commonwealth Writers.

Please note the following rules while submitting your entry:
  • Entries previously submitted to the Commonwealth Short Story Prize are not eligible.
  • All entries must be in English. Translations of short stories written in languages other than English are eligible if submitted by the writer (not the translator) and provided the translator is a citizen of a Commonwealth country. Details of the translator must be stated on the entry.
  • Entries must be 2,000 words minimum, 5,000 words maximum.
  • Entries should be uploaded in a PDF document. Please save your document as a PDF and use the title of the story as the file name. Please note the story must not be saved as ‘Commonwealth Story’, ‘Short Story’ or any other generic title. If it is not possible to save the entry as a PDF document, it may be uploaded as a Microsoft Word document, with the file name in the same format as above. The first page should include the name of the story and the number of words (and details of the translator if it is a story written in a language other than English).
  • The author’s details should be included in the entry form. They must not be given anywhere on the uploaded document. All entries are judged anonymously.

Scholarship Description
The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) scholarship supports PhD studies in the fields of Science and Engineering and is open to international students.

Students will be supervised by distinguished and world-renowned researchers in these labs. Upon successful completion, students will be conferred a PhD degree by either NUS or NTU.

SINGA is a collaboration between the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to offer PhD training to be carried out in English at your chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes, NUS or NTU.

Fields of study
PhD fields in Science and Engineering. Research areas under the PhD Program fall broadly under two categories:
  1. Biomedical Sciences and
  2. Engineering and Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Applicants can pursue a PhD degree in any field of study for which they can demonstrate interest and capability. The PhD projects under SINGA are research based, not clinically based.

A total of 240 scholarships will be given to students from all over the world

Sponsorship duration
For the whole duration of the programme - the award covers a financial support for up to 4 years.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarships are valued as:
  • Attractive monthly stipend over 4 years of PhD studies, which can support you comfortably. The stipend amount is SGD 24,000 annually, to be increased to SGD 30,000 after passing Qualifying Examination.
  • Full support for tuition fees for 4 years of PhD studies.
  • One-time SGD 1,000 Settling-in Allowance
  • One-time Airfare Grant of SGD 1,500
Method of Application
Applicants will first need to fill in an online application form and submit it through the SINGA website (link to it is below). In the past, applicants were required to send hard copies of supporting documents via post, but these can now be uploaded during the online application.

Ensure that the information you provide during registration for an account in the application portal is accurate, as the information will be used for verification upon your first log-in.

Ensure that you apply for the correct scholarship – “Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)” – in the application portal after logging in.

Softcopies of the following supporting documents must be uploaded during your online application:

  • A recent passport-sized photo in JPEG/PNG format
  • University Academic Transcripts (in English translation)
  • Degree Scrolls (in English translation) or a letter of certification from the university on your candidature if your degree scroll has not yet been conferred.

DEADLINES:
The annual deadline date for the next January class intake is 1 June of the previous year, and that for the next August class intake is 1 January of the same year.

The application deadline for August 2015 is 1 January 2015. Only applications with complete supporting documents submitted before or on 1 January 2015 (2359hrs GMT+8 SINGAPORE Time) will be processed.

Scholarship Description
The Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships ("Scholarships") were established from donations received from the Lee Foundation and are the National University of Singapore (NUS) most prestigious scholarship awards for graduate students.

The scholarship is intended for students who would like to pursue PhD Programmes at the University. There is no bond required of this award.

Eligibility
The Scholarships are open to students of all nationalities who gain admission to any Ph.D. programme at the University. Applicants must have the following eligibility criteria:
  • Have graduated with an undergraduate degree with first class or second-upper (or equivalent);
  • Be an incoming new PhD student not currently matriculated;
  • At the time of award of the Scholarship, must have been offered admission as a candidate for a full-time higher degree by research at NUS and;
  • Students must be eligible for MOE Subsidy*.

Selection criteria:
In keeping with the donor's wishes, the Scholarships will be awarded to well-rounded individuals showing exceptional promise who have an appropriate balance of intellect and character. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to service.

Number of Awards
Up to five (5) new Scholarships will be given each year. Not all Scholarships will be awarded unless there are candidates of sufficient merit.

Sponsorship Duration
The award is tenable for one (1) year in the first instance; but subject to the scholar’s satisfactory progress, it may be renewed annually. The maximum period of award is four (4) years.

Scholarship benefits
Each Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarship (“Scholarship”) will provide for the following:
  • A monthly stipend of S$3,300;
  • Tuition and Miscellaneous Student Fees at NUS;
  • An annual book allowance of S$500;
  • A one-off air travel allowance of 2 return tickets of up to S$4,000 (only for overseas students subject to a maximum of S$2,000 per return ticket on economy class and 20 kg baggage per trip); and
  • A one-off laptop allowance of S$1,500.
Method of Application
Incoming Ph.D. candidates will have to indicate their interest in the Scholarship when they submit their application for admission. You may visit the Graduate Admission System at NUS.

Apart from the other supporting documents required for Ph.D. admission, candidates interested in the Scholarship must also submit a personal essay and a record of co-curricular activities or community service. Short-listed candidates will be invited to an interview either in Singapore or their home country.

The University reserves the right to terminate the Scholarship:
  1. at any time without notice if the scholar's progress is not satisfactory, or there is misconduct by the scholar, including the provision of inaccurate or false information and the omission of material information in connection with the University’s offer of the Scholarship, or the scholar is in breach of any of the terms and conditions herein; or
  2. at any time by giving 1 month's notice in writing to the scholar without assigning any reason.
Also, the scholar has the following rights:
  • The scholar may terminate the Scholarship by giving 1 month's notice in writing.
  • If the Scholarship ceases or is terminated for any reason whatsoever, the scholar shall only be entitled to a prorated amount of the monthly stipend up to the date of cessation or termination of the Scholarship, where the Scholarship ceases or terminates before the end of the month. If the full amount of the monthly stipend has already been paid to the scholar, then he/she must immediately refund the excess amount to the University.

The selection of candidates will take place twice a year, in time for the start of the academic year in August and January.

Scholarship Description
Applications are invited from eligible students for the award of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships offered by the Ministry of Higher Education of Sri Lanka under the Government of Sri Lanka Presidential Scholarships for Foreign Students for the academic year 2014/2015.

The Scheme offers undergraduate scholarships to foreign students from 48 countries is a new programme with the exception of bringing about stronger educational co-operations with friendly nations. The Scholarship Scheme offers international students an opportunity to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level in programmes conducted by reputed state universities in Sri Lanka.

Eligibility
Be a citizen of a country covered by this scholarship (A citizen of another country having Sri Lankan dual citizenship is not eligible to apply).

Undergraduate Applicants:
  • Candidates with impressive result of an examination deemed equivalent to G.C.E. (Advance Level) Examination of Sri Lanka are eligible to apply for admission to universities in Sri Lanka. 
  • Applicants are advised to attach to their applications the original letter obtained from the Examinations Board concerned, to prove that their educational qualifications are equivalent to the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination conducted in Sri Lanka or the G.C.E. A/L examination of University of London or qualifications required for admission to a university in their own country to follow an undergraduate course of study leading to a Bachelor degree. 
  • Applicants should ensure that all required passes should be obtained in one and the same setting under a recognized Board of Examination.
  • Age: Be less than 25 years of age on 15.10.2014
Postgraduate Applicants:
  • Applicants should possess a first degree from a recognized university with good academic merit to enroll a masters degree and for PhD studies, a Master/MPhil degree is required in addition to the first degree.
  • Age: Be less than 45 years of age on 15.10.2014
  • Applicants must provide evidence of proficiency in English, i.e. a minimum score of 525 on TOEFL or 6.0 on IELTS for undergraduate studies. For Masters or PhD, the required marks should be a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL or 6.5 on IELTS.

There are currently only 15 state universities in Sri Lanka. The prominent ones are University of Colombo, University of Peradeniya, University of Ruhuna, University of Kelaniya, University of Sri Jayawardhenapura and University of Moratuwa. In recent years with changes to the University Act a few institutes have been given permission to grant their own degrees, the most prominent is the government owned Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.

Fields of study
All available courses at undergraduate or postgraduate levels in participating Sri Lankan universities. Scholarships are open for courses of studies other than Medical & Dental Sciences.

Scholarship benefits
The value of the scholarship includes:
  • Provide free of charge tuition and registration.
  • Free of charge visa for studies.
  • During the study period, a monthly living allowance of Rs.30, 000/- will be paid.
  • One-off settlement allowance of Rs. 10,000/-.
  • Reimburse the cost of airfare (economy class) to come to Sri Lanka and return his/her country after Studies.
  • Accommodation : It is expected that the scholarship recipient will meet the expenditure for food and accommodation with the monthly allowance of Rs.30, 000/- (The relevant university/higher educational institute will assist in finding suitable accommodation).
  • Medical Cover: Free of charge medical benefits will be provided at government hospitals other than dental related diseases.
Method of Application
The following steps / procedures are to be followed:
  • Each applicant should submit duly perfected 4 sets of applications (one original) along with all required documents to his/her government nominating agency by post.
  • Each application should be recommended by the government nominating agency by filling out the section 09 B of the application (see the Brochure)
  • The government nominating agency of the applicant should submit the applications with their recommendation to the Sri Lankan mission in his/her country for forwarding the same to the Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka. In case a Sri Lankan mission is not present in his /her country, the government nominating agency can forward the applications directly.
  • Required documents: Certified copy of Birth Certificate, Certified copy of official evidence of any name change, Certified copy of the personal page of applicant’s passport, Certified copies of the graduation/post-graduation certificates and Certified copies of the academic transcripts
  • Medical Certificate
  • Security Vetting
  • Two Referee reports for postgraduate students (preferred from applicant’s current employer/former lecturer/academic supervisor)
  • Research proposal – for PhD/MPhil applicants.

Boren Scholarships are opportunities for undergraduate students with U.S. citizenship to study in regions of the world considered critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad.

The scholarships provide funding resources and encouragement undergraduate students need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of the American nation, in exchange for their commitment to seek work with the U.S. federal government.

The areas and regions include Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Eligibility
Boren Scholarships are for undergraduate students.

You are eligible to apply for the Boren Scholarship if you are:
  • A U.S. citizen at the time of application
  • A high school graduate, or have earned a GED
  • Matriculated in an undergraduate degree program located within the United States accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Boren Scholars must remain matriculated in their undergraduate programs for the duration of the scholarship and may not graduate until the scholarship is complete.
  • Applying to a study abroad program that meets home institution standards in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Boren Scholarships are not for study in the United States.
Program Preferences:
Boren Scholarships are awarded with preference for countries, languages, and fields of study critical to U.S. national security. Preference is also given to students who will study abroad for longer periods of time, and who are highly motivated by the opportunity to work in the federal government.

As NSEP cannot list all countries, languages, and fields that are critical to U.S. national security, we are interested in applications that fall outside the preferences, if the candidate can make a compelling case that such study can contribute significantly to U.S. national security and the goals of the program.

Boren Scholarships promote long term linguistic and cultural immersion, and therefore study abroad proposals for two or more semesters are strongly encouraged.
