The University of Exeter offers Sports Scholarships, tailored to the needs of the individual athlete, of upto £2000 plus additional support services and coaching per year to international students of high ability.
The University of Exeter Sports Scholarship Scheme is one of the most prestigious in the UK, helping the best student athletes reach their full potential. The scheme provides a comprehensive support package and is tailored to suit the needs of each individual athlete.
Sports Scholarships are available to the most outstanding student athletes who show evidence of achievement at national or international level. Many of these graduating scholars have progressed to a professional level in their chosen sport and represented their respective countries on the global stage.
Eligibility
Sports Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and are available to undergraduate and postgraduate applicants, as well as current students. Every Sports Scholar must be a student at the University of Exeter and compete for the University in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) events.
Emphasis is placed on awarding scholarships to athletes competing in one of the school's Focus Sports, however, performers from any sport recognised by the Athletic Union will be considered.
Scholarships are only offered to students who have gained a place or normal admission to a course at the University of Exeter. No special reduction in entry criteria is offered as part of the scholarship and all offers of a place on the scheme are subject to receiving an offer at the University.

Scholarship benefits
Sports scholarships are awarded annually and tailored to the needs of the individual. They include a cash sum for sporting expenses up to £2,000 a year for exceptional athletes.
The amount awarded depends on your:
- chosen sport,
- achievements,
- ability and potential to develop during your time at Exeter.
The sports scholarship scheme is funded centrally by the University High Performance Programme. However, several partners and local and national sponsors also show great generosity by financing several individual scholarships and bursaries.
The school also offers Individual High Performance Bursaries up to £500 per athlete. These bursaries may be awarded at the discretion of the High Performance Unit in conjunction with the school's sports specific directors and high performance sport managers. Funds may be used to help cover sporting expenses throughout the season for representative commitments and training camps. Further details are available upon request.
Method of Application
Applications to the Sports Scholarship Scheme takes three stages.
Online applications for 2014 / 2015 will be accepted from October 2013 and need to be submitted by 31 March 2014.
The High Performance Unit assesses all applications and invite shortlisted candidates to formally apply to the second stage of the scheme’s application process at the end of May. This application requires a more detail submission accompanied by two sports specific references.
In most circumstances short-listed players will be invited to attend a sports specific screening at the University in mid-July. A final decision on the award will then be given at the beginning of October and awards will be allocated.
To apply, you must fill in the online Sports Scholarship Application Form found on the official website (link to it is below). Note that you will be required to fill in your Personal Details, Education Background, Course Details, Sports Details, and other data.
The Sports Scholarship Panel will then assess all applications and invite short listed athletes to formally apply for the second stage of the scheme's application process at the end of May. This will require a more detailed submission accompanied by 2 sports specific references. The panel will then meet again to decide upon recommendations for awards.

DEADLINES:
The final scholarship application deadline is 31st May 2014.
Completed online application forms will be accepted from October 2013 and need to be submitted initially by the 31st March 2014 for 2014/15 entry.
Late applications may be considered up to the end of May, following consultation with the University of Exeter Sport High Performance Unit in order to avoid disappointing any potential sports stars.
The school is committed to ensuring that high achieving students will be able to study for an undergraduate or a graduate degree at the University of Exeter irrespective of their financial background.

Sports Scholarships are tailored to the needs of the individual athlete but will include a cash sum for sporting expenses for exceptional athletes. A full package of support services and coaching equating to a cash equivalent of upwards of £3500 is also provided as part of each award.
