The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) aims to alleviate qualitative and quantitative shortages of skilled manpower within a wide range of governmental, private and non-governmental organizations. The United Nations International Law Fellowship Programme is a six-week course organized annually by the Codification Division of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs. The Fellowship Programme will cover the fellowship recipient’s travel costs in economy class, medical insurance, the training material and the registration fee for The Hague Academy of International Law. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Scholarship Programme, initiated in 2007, can be used for selected short courses in the Netherlands. The MENA Scholarships are proportionally distributed among the seven participating countries - Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Syria and Tunisia. The prestigious and highly competitive Huygens Scholarship Programme allows talented students to study in the Netherlands in the final phase of their bachelor’s studies or during their master’s studies. The scholarships include the following components: a generous reimbursement of tuition fees or a contribution towards bench fees for the PhD thesis; a monthly allowance of €1,380 (this includes a standard contribution towards healthcare insurance); visa fees (standard contribution); AND a one-off payment towards international travel costs (standard contribution based on nationality). The Delft University of Technology offers the TU Delft Excellence Scholarships - Justus & Louise Van Effen Scholarships, Delft Research Initiative (DRI) Scholarships, AND TU Delft institutes scholarships. In 2014, a new prestigious scholarship programme, the Amsterdam Excellence Scholarships (AES), will be launched at University of Amsterdam, targeting exceptionally talented Master’s students from outside Europe. Students from any discipline belonging to the top 10% of graduates from their class may apply. Selection is on the basis of academic excellence, ambition and relevance for a student’s future career. Outstanding students from outside the European Economic Area (holding a non-EEA nationality) can apply for an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS) at the University of Amsterdam. Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic merit, such as grade average, letter of recommendation and motivation. The value of the grant is €6,000 - €21,000. The scholarship consists of €6,000, €9,000 or €12,000 but awards are based on the comprehensive financial plan, which should demonstrate the extent of the need for additional funding.
