The OU won the prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, with its innovative Master of
Education program in sub-Saharan Africa (TESSA).

The Queen's Anniversary Prizes are awarded for outstanding contributions by institutions in the fields of higher education and other community generally .TESSA extends across 13 institutions and nine countries in Africa , and is now the research community and development of larger African teacher training .TESSA was designed and led by the Open University and funded by the Department for Education and Skills in England , The Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and donations from alumni OU. It has developed a unique open content model to address the challenges of delivering high quality programs based professional learning in school for teachers in Africa.

HEAT is another program launched in early 2011 by The Open University with a bold ambition - to reach and help train 250,000 health workers front line throughout sub-Saharan Africa 2016 by working closely with governments African NGOs and funding institutions, We believe that heat will transform access to health care in the region.
