Scholarship Description
The University of British Columbia (UBC) attracts and provides the Bachelors degree to talented secondary and post-secondary students from around the world.
UBC honours the achievements of incoming international students through the provision of the International Leader of Tomorrow (ILOT) program.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be an international student entering a UBC undergraduate program directly from secondary school or transferring from college/university, and you must be eligible to study in Canada on a Canadian study permit.
Award candidates must be nominated by their current school or college/university. To be considered for an ILOT Award you must:
- Be entering a UBC undergraduate degree program from a recognized secondary school, college or other university
- Be admissible to the first choice program you are applying to, including meeting UBC’s English Language Admission Standard
have an excellent academic record (at least an “A” average or equivalent standard) - Be an international student, who is neither a Canadian citizen nor a permanent resident of Canada, and who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian Study Permit (visa)
- Demonstrate a level of financial need that would otherwise prevent you from pursuing a UBC degree.
- an exceptional level of academic achievement (‘A‘ average or equivalent standing), and meet UBC’s other competitive admission requirements;
- superior extracurricular achievement and leadership ability.

Sponsorship duration
The award can be renewed for up to four (4) years of undergraduate study provided the recipient achieves satisfactory academic standing and continues to hold a valid Canadian study permit.
Scholarship benefits
The value of awards is commensurate with demonstrated financial need, up to full tuition costs for the relevant program of study, and living expenses.
Method of Application
Award candidates must be nominated by their current school or college/university. UBC does not send packages directly to students.
If you wish to be considered for an award, speak to your counsellor who can request a nomination package from UBC.
DEADLINES:
Nomination packages must be postmarked by December 10, 2014. Nominees must also complete the online application for academic admission to UBC by December 10, 2014 and meet the UBC English Language Admission Requirement by January 31, 2015.
PLEASE NOTE:
Although applicants to UBC can specify two program choices in their application for admission, an International Leader of Tomorrow Award nomination will be considered only in relation to the nominee's first choice program. Early application is encouraged, to ensure an application decision can be made in time for nomination consideration.
