Scholarship Description
The African Women Public Service Fellowship program offers postgraduate master and executive master level support to eligible women from Africa.
The fellowship expands the opportunity and makes it possible for these women to attend the New York University Wagner Institution, which offers an exceptional program to help women expand their Public Service in their home countries.
The programme was made possible by a donation from the Oprah Winfrey Foundation.
The New York University Wagner Institution announces a call for applications for the African Women Public Service Fellowship.
Eligibility
To qualify for the fellowship, prospective applicants must meet the general admissions criteria:
- Be an African woman residing in an African country at the time of application
- Pay the non-refundable application fee is $85 (see official website via link below to learn how you may bypass this fee)
- Submit one or more recommendations
- Give a personal interview
- Have work or volunteer experience

Selection Criteria:
NYU Wagner's admissions committee pays particular attention to applications from women who possess strong academic records; who have a demonstrated commitment to public service; and for whom a Wagner education would significantly enhance their ability to have a deep and lasting impact on public service issues in their home country and region.

Scholarship Benefits
The awards for either program will support tuition, housing, travel to and from the United States and a small stipend to cover books and miscellaneous expenses.

NYU offers a Web-based application to make their application process as easy and convenient as possible. They do not accept paper applications.
Admissions at NYU is conducted on a deadline-driven timetable. Once an application is submitted, it will be reviewed for completness and forwarded to the Admissions Committee for review. All applications are reviewed as is, however applications that are missing materials are at a profound disadvantage.
Before submitting the online application, all transcripts should be scanned and uploaded into the online applcation. Transcripts submitted after the application deadline will not be accepted. Failure to complete this requirement may result in withdrawal of an application.

DEADLINES:
The Admissions Committee begins reviewing Fall applications in December of the prior year. Spring application review begins in September of the prior fall. Master's applicants receive a decision by e-mail according to the Notification Timetable. NYU Wagner will continue to accept applications after the deadline on a space available basis.
Candidates must submit their application according to the current academic Admissions Timetable.
PLEASE NOTE:
There are no special forms or applications to fill out to be considered for the African Women Public Service Fellowship. You will automatically be considered for all scholarships, including the African Women Public Service Fellowship.
For priority admission and merit aid consideration you should submit your application as early as possible.
Due to the competitive nature of fellowship selection, fellowship finalists will be notified but are required to reply to NYU Wagner’s offer within five business days of notification.
International candidates are encouraged to apply early so that they will have enough time to arrange for a visa, which can be very time-consuming and involve detailed documentation and interviews.
International applicants are automatically considered for all merit-based scholarships.
